Welcome to Capoeira Da Rua! Capoeira Da Rua is a unique expression of capoeira that emphasizes and cultivates its martial aspects without denying its artistic nature. Capoeira Da Rua is based on the pre-academia street capoeira of Rio de Janeiro, which is what the group's name translate to...capoeira of the street, Capoeira Da Rua. It was in the streets of Rio de Janeiro in the early 1800's where the art was practiced both as a deadly fighting art and as a friendly game of wit and strategy.

Our philosophy is to be able to play in a roda amongst comrades but to always have the ability to use the art form as a practical and applicable self defense. Using the philosophy of ‘no style as our style’ Capoeira da Rua is part of a new movement, movimento novo. We challenge ourselves and others to look beyond the stylistic differences and instead seek to build a bridge between the rifts in order to promote tolerance and interaction between groups and styles for the betterment of the art and its future practitioners.
